Highs and Lows
for MBR at Race 2 of Long Island Championship
08-29-10
- On Sunday, August 29th, the Monte Brothers Racing team returned to
action after a four week break for summer vacations.
First
up and on the track was 7 year old, Austin Monte in his #93 50cc CRG
Kid Kart. Austin was excited to be back on the track and thrilled when
asked to help show a new kid kart competitor the track. Austin was the
lead kart in a session of "Follow the Leader" with the his new
competitor. Austin would start the race in fourth and was turning some of
his fastest lap times yet. On Lap 4, going into Turn 1, Austin lost
traction and spun. Unfortunately, another competitor was right behind him
and had no where to go but into the side of Austin's kart picking it up
into the air. It took a few track workers to get them apart and with a
bent tie rod and banged up leg, Austin was done for the day.
Next
up was Anthony Monte in his #92 80cc Cadet kart. Anthony also qualified
4th for the prefinal race. From the drop of the Green flag Anthony was
battling for positions and would finish the prefinal in 4th. In the final
race, Anthony would once again find himself battling for position. After
making a few nice moves and battling for position again, Anthony would
finish the race in 3rd. It was a great battle on the track and a rewarding
finish.
Last
up was Nicholas Monte, in his #91 Rotax Jr kart. Nicholas would also
qualify in 4th for the prefinal race. Nick had a great race and cut a full
second off of his lap times with a very loose race kart. In the final race
Nicholas started in fourth and jumped up to third where he held off
attacks from a fellow competitor. At Lap 6 Nicholas spun going into Turn 1
and fell back to seventh. After getting the kart turned around, Nicholas
would charge back to fourth where he finished the race.
Overall
it was a great day of racing for the whole team. Our next event is Sunday,
September 12th.
LIKA 30 Lap
Endurance Race
08-01-10
- On Sunday, August 1st, the Long Island Karting Association held the
annual Club Picnic and 30 Lap Endurance Race. This race is twice the
number of laps run on during a regular race day. It is a true test of both
driver and kart. All three Monte Brothers would do well and completed all
of the laps.
Anthony
Monte, who races in the 80cc Cadet class would spend the day
battling for position with fellow competitor Dominick Ferrara. As each lap
ticked off, Anthony was quicker in the tight turns but Dominick was
quicker down the straightaways. The two drivers would battle lap after lap
for 2nd and 3rd positions. In the end it was Dominick Ferrara who raced to
the checkered flag for 2nd with Anthony pulling up along side for 3rd. It
was a great battle to watch as the two raced each other clean.
At
the end of the race it was great to see the two competitors, and friends,
congratulate each other on a well run race.
An
additional surprise on the day was to see Mrs. Monte, the boys mom, take a
few laps in Nicholas' Rotax Junior kart as part of the Ladies Race. This
was the first time Mrs. Monte had been in a competitive racing kart. All
three boys cheered as mom raced down the straightaways and into the tight
turns of the LIKA track.
